Scarlet Tentacle Pin Up Girl Illustration – Free Embroidery Pattern, now with more Tentacles

Scarlet Tentacle Pin Up Girl Illustration Free Embroidery Pattern

Finally, tentacles from Scarlet Tentacle! It only took me a year and a half or so to draw some.

So: I’m starting a monthly tradition of designing a free pattern for hand embroidery each month. Here is the free pattern for May from Scarlet Tentacle… Since I’ve been procrastinating for months about dealing with image hosting, this image can be found in its largest size by clicking on the image in this post, which will take you to my Tumblr; click on the image in the Tumblr post to get to the largest resolution of the pattern, which should be large enough to print on 8.5×11 paper. If for some reason this does not work for you, feel free to email me (scarlettentacle[at]gmail dot com) with a request for a .pdf file of the pattern.

The non-embroiderable text on the image says “…Happy End of May 2011 from Scarlet Tentacle! Here is a free hand embroidery pattern featuring a curvy pin-up girl covered in tentacles for all of your audacious handmade embroidery pattern needs… …because nothing says “Happy End of May 2011 and oh, Also! Congrats on not being Raptured” like a curvy pin-up girl covered in tentacles…” Though I do suppose you could embroider that text if you wished to — it is your pattern now, go do with it what you will (besides make saleable items or commercial items of any kind – that is definitely not allowed).

Some thoughts on actually embroidering this piece: Since I am a habitual procrastinator, I didn’t start designing this pattern nearly soon enough in the month to embroider a sample to show people alongside the actual pattern. You know what they say about good intentions, no?

– Stitches potentially appropriate for the suckers on the tentacles are clusters of knots — French knots, Pekinese knots, Bullion knots, etc. — as well as blanket pinwheels, buttonwheel flowers, circular couching, raised cup stitches, or pretty much any stitch that makes a pleasingly tentacle-y texture to you. Also! Varying lengths of any kind of chain stitch (open chain stitch, rope stitch, cable chain stitch, twisted chain stitch, heavy chain stitch, etc.) in place of individually articulated tentacle suckers would also look really interesting.
– The top-sides of the tentacles would make an excellent place for creative use of crayon-wax coloring or fabric markers, as the area is quite large but could handle quite a bit of bright color or pattern.
– Make it yours! Make it work! Add some more tentacles in even more daring locations to go all the way with the embroidered Hentai porn!

Also! If all of this talk about embroidery stitches sounds like gibberish to you, don’t despair! Not only do I have a handy stitch dictionary in front of me to cheat from (yeah, like I actually know all the names of the stitches I use? Hah. I’m a ‘make it work and ask what the hell it is later’ kind of embroiderer), I’m working on making some simple vector illustrations and instructions for stitches so that you, hypothetical internet reader, can get your erotic embroidery on in the comfort of your own home. Or you can simply print out the pattern as an illustration and enjoy it in black and white.

And also! If you do enjoy this pattern and decide to embroider it, please let me know in the comments or by email! And I’d love to see photos.
