BDSM embroidery artwork update

A close up of some of the embroidery work I’ve been up to lately.

This piece, and several others like it, came out of my reflections on the BDSM community’s interest in flagging – the sense of the hankie code as well as our leather pride flag –  as well as the practice of having leather families, the tumblr debate about femme flagging*, the rich history of medieval heraldry and the assortment of symbols used over the world to represent both the divine feminine & witchcraft. It’s about 20 inches wide by 30 inches tall and holy cow did it take an ass-ton of time. It’s by far one of the largest embroidered pieces I’ve worked on and I have the very sore hands to prove it.

You can see more pieces from my fine art portfolio for the Folsom Street Fair here, if you’re curious.

*Femme ladies of Tumblr, I have some Very Mixed Feelings about Grand Gestures to Reclaim things from leather folks, especially when you don’t seem to be particularly aware of the history behind the hankie code.

What about you, gentle reader? What fun things have you been up to lately?
