Things I’m Reading: Butch, Please

Butch, Please: Butch With A Side Of Misogyny

Over on Autostraddle.com, Kate wrote a thought-provoking article about the shape that misogyny often takes within queer communities. As someone who has spent the last several months becoming more involved in the queer social scene in the Bay Area while swinging wildly through multiple facets of the gender presentation spectrum, from high femme to androgynous queer to futch to butch to tomboy femme to laundry day assortment of odds & ends to who knows what, I found this article and a great deal of the discussion in the comments particularly relevant to my life on multiple levels. As you can guess from the typographic image above, I was quite taken with Kate’s phrase from the end of the article: our masculinity doesn’t have to have a body count.

What about you, what articles are you chewing on right now?
